My dog got 50,000 likes: The power of social media marketing

I was walking my dog, Amber, the other morning just after sunset as light beams poured into the woods.  Luckily, I took my camera and managed to capture Amber sitting in the light.  I edited the photos and posted one onto Instagram.  Later that week the photo was then reposted by @canon_photos, an Instagram account with 1.5m followers.  The photo has now been liked over 50,000 times and seen by over 300,000 people, these seem to be such crazy numbers!  Here is a link to the picture:

It has made me consider the power of social media marketing.  After a small amount of browsing the internet, I found these statistics, which I thought were worth sharing (https://www.b2bmarketing.net/en-gb/resources/blog/real-power-social-media-marketing):

33 % of consumers discover new brands, products and services on social networks (eMarketer)

72 % of marketers use social media to create and develop loyal fans (Social Media Examiner)

92 % of all marketers indicate that investing in social media results in more exposure for their businesses (Social Media Examiner)

Product information found on social media influences shopping behaviour of 75 % of Americans (Adroit Digital)

It appears clear that social media is beginning to be understood as a platform for advertising.  Social media is a major way to grow brands and ideas, promote loyalty to brands or causes and improve awareness of brands or issues.
